TELUS Mobility Partner Introduces
Wireless E-Health Service to Canada
Victoria, BC - July 12, 2003. DPL Consulting's Caliente Solutions Corp. and TELUS Mobility are pleased to announce a new personal health reminder service called Caliente. This new scheduled personal health reminder service is now being offered to all of TELUS Mobility's customers and employees through wireless devices such as cellular telephones.
The primary function of this service, which is to provide personalized automated messages to support individual health goals, demonstrates a valuable use for SMS text messaging services widely available in Europe and Asia, an now becoming more widely available in North America. "We are very excited about this partnership," said Darcy McNeill, Manager, Business Development and Strategic Alliances, of TELUS Mobility, "as it represents an innovative new use of our national wireless network."
Access to the Caliente services is via the "On Demand Services" portal located on the TELUS Mobility Website. The system allows users to create and schedule their health and nutrition reminders, and have those messages sent directly to their cell phone via text messaging, on a one-time basis or recurring, as necessary. The system will 'follow' the user as they travel from time zone to time zone, thus assuring scheduled messages are delivered at the correct time. A nominal charge for each message sent, to a small monthly maximum, is applied to the subscriber's phone bill.
Dale Leier, Executive Director of Caliente Canada said, "We are inundated on a daily basis with things to remember. Caliente is the solution for one of the most critical needs of all - remembering to do all those tasks related to health care". Mr. Leier acquired the Canadian rights for the Caliente service from Caliente Inc, of Portland Oregon, and facilitated the service offering through TELUS Mobility.
Caliente is easily tailored to different devices and messaging platforms according to client needs. Utilizing proprietary wireless communication software and its secure, interactive website, Caliente economically delivers messaging services across a variety of devices including cell-phones, pagers or personal digital assistants. Clients who use the internet can easily set up the service themselves, while caregivers or family members may assist those who are less familiar with the web.
Caliente provides a mechanism for people to assist themselves in their overall health care goals, thereby improving health and well being, which in turn has a direct cost savings benefit to employers, the health care delivery system and our economy. Patrick Howitt, CEO of Caliente, Inc., creator of the service said, "We are pleased that TELUS Mobility, already known for its commitment to community, is making this proven tool available to their clients and staff." Caliente, Inc. of Portland, OR has been offering a similar service via pager to US customers for several years. This is the first time, however, that such a service has ever been made available to cell-phone users.
